Agoda hotel rooms booking procedure

I have used Agoda for booking my hotel rooms when I travel for more than 10 times by now.  The first time I used Agoda for booking my hotel room online is about 3 years ago. It runs really smooth. First you find the hotel and the room you would like to book. Then you enter all your personal details and finalize by giving Agoda your credit card details. For some hotels you prepay and for others you only make a reservation and the full amount will be taken after you leave.

When using Agoda you can get all practical information you need about each hotel. Agoda also give you pictures and reviews from travellers who have already stayed at the hotel you are about to book. These reviews can be very useful

Booking hotel rooms with Agoda step by step:

Step 1: Select destination & dates

First step is to go to the Agoda website and enter into the front page search form the city you would like to book a hotel and your arrival date plus total number of nights you would like to stay at the hotel. Please beware that Agoda has made sure that you get a list of choices when you enter your destination. This is in order for you to narrow your search quickly and get only hotels that are located in the area you are looking for. For instance if you type “Bangkok”. You will then have a short list of the most popular choices where you can select if you want to stay at a Bangkok airport hotel or in one of the city Areas Silom or Sukhumvit. Also you can see how many hotels Agoda can offer you in each area. For instance Bangkok area offers more than 1200 different hotels. For that reason it is a good idea to have some search criterias.

Step 2: Select your hotel

When searching your first search list will show the best offers on top. The Agoda recommended hotels are the best hotel deals that Agoda specifically have negotiated better deals for. Agoda also allow you to sort by number of hotel stars or by the consumer review score. If you are looking for the cheapest possible hotel you can try sort by stars ascending so you will see the 1 star hotels first and the 5 stars last. If you only want 5 star hotels you sort by stars descending as see all the 5 star hotels first. In the filter section you can also select that you only want to see 3 star hotels. If you use filter you can also type in how much you are willing to spend per night and Agoda will only show you options close to your budget. In general you can use the filter section on the right hand side to enter all your criteria’s so you do not need to look for it by clicking many hotels. This will save you a lot of time.

Step 3: Inspect selected hotel

When you click into an Agoda hotel you will find different options that you can use to decide if you want to stay in this hotel. I would advise you to check:

  • The pictures of the hotel. These pictures will tell you more about the hotel than you can read. Of course always beware that the hotels will likely show you their best rooms. Pictures are also a good way to see what facilities the hotel has available.
  • Next I would check the hotel location to make sure where it is located compared to my landmarks I know I am going to visit.
  • I would go through the “room features” list to make sure the hotel room has what I am expecting of my room.  For instance some of the features I prefer to have are Air conditioning, refrigerator, TV and a free WiFi. You find the room features list by clicking the “room info” link in the box presenting each room type.
  • Finally before making my final decision I would check out the reviews from other people who have stayed in the same hotel. When I read reviews I only look for the negative comments. My reason to do that is because I have an idea that this is a detector for if something is horribly wrong with the hotel that the pictures will not expose. Another advice is to not put too much into the negative comments either if it has to do with things that would practically be a matter of taste. As an example I sometimes have read that a hotel is noisy or the staff is not friendly and then when I arrive my personal opinion is that the staff is friendly and the noise is not worse than expected in a tourist area.

Below I have put in a picture for a selected hotel in Bangkok, Thailand to show you where to find the 4 elements I am talking about above. In this picture you can see the room images, show hotel on map, reviews and the box where you will find the room info link.

Step 4: Book your selected room

To book your rooms select the number of rooms you need by clicking the drill down arrow in the “No. Rooms” box and click “Book it”. Agoda will now take you to a data entry module like the in the image below.

On the first booking page you need to enter name, email, phone number, country of origin and also you can here indicate if you are the booker only and another person will stay in the room. Here you can also see the details of your booking like which hotel and period of stay. The price per night and total price excluding taxes and service charges is also shown here.

When you have completed the form above and clicked “continue” Agoda will take you to the payment screen asking for your credit card details. Agoda is using secure high standard modern encryption methods to secure your personal account details so it is safe to book by Agoda I think. In this screen you can also see the total price you will pay including the service charge and hotel tax.  When you have entered all your credit card details click “Pay & Book now”. In most cases within minutes you will have received a booking confirmation and shortly after you will receive a hotel voucher you can bring to the hotel. In most cases even so you do not bring the voucher the hotel already has your name in storage because they will get your arrival information directly from Agoda.

AGODA Rewards loyalty programme

The Agoda loyalty programme is more or less truly brilliant. Every time you book a hotel room with Agoda you will save 4-7% to a loyalty programme you can later exchange for real cash to book new hotels for. During my last hotel booking I had enough points to get a 25 USD discount upon a booking of around 150 USD. That was a nice supplement to my booking.

The programme runs all the time and you do not need to sign up to anything. All you have to do is to always use the same email address when you book hotel rooms with Agoda. Agoda will then automatically collect the points for you.  Agoda will let you redeem loyalty points for your hotel rooms bookings in intervals of 25 usd each time.

To access your points you need to register an account with Agoda. After registering an account you can log into your account profile and select “My rewards”. Here you can see how much points you have earned and find instructions on how to redeem your points.

Agoda allow you to redeem your points when you make a hotel booking. All you have to do is to make sure your are logged into your Agoda account and follow the instructions. The points can be redeemed during the first step of the booking form. Look at the upper right corner.
