Why go to Boracay – Visit the best beach in the world

First time visitor to Boracay?

Boracay Philippines Panay
If your answer is yes and you are at this very moment looking forward to visit Boracay for the very first time in your life I can only say to you that I am very jealous on you. Since I visited Boracay the first time in my life I have been keep coming back. Although I must say that nothing has beaten my first time to visit the Island of Boracay. The first time was very special because I was completely taken by surprise. My expectations were more than fulfilled. No matter what I cannot have this feeling of Boracay delivering more than I expected more than once.

Boracay has altered my perceptions of what to expect from a beach holiday destination. When I first time visited the place I had never before in my life experienced something like Boracay. My first visit was in 2008 and I have been to many other places since as well. But I must say that even so nothing has yet appeared to me to be better than Boracay.  As you will see when you read along this is not just some fact that I am stating. Lots of travellers visit Boracay and leave the Island with the same feeling of happiness that I had. A very good friend of mine visited Boracay for the first time in March 2013 and he was as ecstatic as I was the first time I went there.

Below I have listed some of the primary reasons why you should go to Boracay. If you are still not decided where you are going to for your next holiday I can promise you Boracay will not disappoint you.

Reasons to go to Boracay:

  • Visit the best beach in the world
  • No traffic – all beach life
  • No noisy jet-ski’s, speed boat and water activities
  • Hotel rooms for all budgets- 1 star – guesthouses to 5 star resorts
  • Perfect combination between quiet life – and disco life
    • Pub-crawl….. Horrible. The guy making it should be shot.
  • Very safe – and very few beggars
  • Nice hospitality everywhere

Visit the best beach in the world.

Boracay sunset
I know it is easy to claim a beach to be the best in the world. However for me Boracay really is the best beach in the world. I have visited great beaches in countries like Spain, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Hawaii, New Zealand, Fiji, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, United Stated, Mexico and I can honestly say that no other place I went to have given me the same white sandy paradise beach atmosphere combined with an amazing palette of choices  for food and activities. The sand on the main White Beach is white powder sand. The water is most of the time crystal clear. Even so the Island also has a lot of activites for day and night time so you will never get bored.

To support my statement saying Boracay is the best beach in the world I can recommend you to read a post in Philstar as well talking about Boracay being named best Asian Beach 2013.

Another source to support my statement you can find in the Yahoo Travel section. Here you will see Yahoo users in 2012 voted Boracay number one for being the best Island in the world. Being the best Island in the World covers more topics than just the quality of the beach it self. This is also how I evaluate it. To me the best beach is not only about the photo-opportunities. The best beach or Island also have to deliver a nice atmosphere and choices for activities so I will not get bored.

Boracay has no traffic – all beach life.

Imagine a beach where all the life is happening on the beach. Restaurants are lying on the beach. There is a walk way made on the beach out of sand. No pavement or concrete. No traffic because no cars or motor bikes are allowed on the beach. This is the reality of Boracay.

Boracay has been planned and developed in a way that makes it possible to avoid having traffic on the beach. Boracay has no roads next to its white beach. Only shops, restaurants and hotels. This is already very unique compared to most places in the world where a road is carved just next to the beach giving way to noise and stress.

Noisy jet-ski’s, speed boats and other water activities has been placed outside Boracays’ White Beach.

It was early on decided that visitors to Boracay came to enjoy the quietness and cleanliness of the White Beach. For this reason a decision was made not to allow jet-skis and other noisy polluting (and potentially dangerous) water activities to take place on the main White Beach. In Boracay you will not find those activities to take place on the beach. If you want to go and try Jet-skis or parasailing you need to sign up and you will be taken to an off shore platform where these activities take place. Besides leaving you senses in peace the result of this also is that you will not find much “oil-film” on the surface of the water you swim in. The water in Boracay is still very clean for a swim.

Boracay offers hotel rooms for all budgets.

No matter if you are looking for a cheap guesthouse or an expensive 5 star resort you can find a Hotel Room for your taste and budget. Boracay has managed to keep a broad range of accommodations. Boracay offers guesthouses, 1 star hotel rooms or if you look for a luxury hotel room it is also available. When you are walking on the beach you do not really notice a social difference between the guests. The life is very relaxed and laid back.

Perfect combination between quiet life – and disco nightlife.

Maybe you would like to have a holiday where you can switch on and off for the nightlife. Most holiday destinations have a nightlife that is very loud and often integrated into the city in a way so you cannot easily avoid it.  In Boracay you will find enough bars and disco’s to have a fun evening out. At the same time you can also easily find a quiet restaurant or bar with a soft live band without too much noise. So when visiting Boracay you can one evening decide to just go for a coffee at Starbucks and feel the sand between your toes while you drink it. The next evening you might decide to go all in and stay out drinking and dancing until 5 in the morning. When staying in Boracay this is your choice to make.

–          Warning against pub-crawls.

All this said I need to put in a warning. If you have ever visited a cheap party and drinking town in countries like Spain or Greece you will know what a pub-crawl is. In Boracay a German guy has been allowed to organise these pub-crawls and I truly fear it will become too popular spoiling Boracay. Boracay will in my opinion loose its edge if it becomes famous for being a pub-crawl place. A pub-crawl is fun for teenagers but it is not cool.  Please leave a comment if you have any opinions about this topic.

Boracay is very safe – and very few beggars.

Boracay is safe
Boracay is an Island located 5-10 minutes away from Panay Island which is the big “mainland”. Boracay is a small place where the locals quickly familiarize themselves with the faces of Filipinos working there. This means that it is not very wise to commit any crimes and also everyone there knows how important tourism is for the whole community. I guess this could be one explanation why Boracay is very safe. Also the travelling costs to Boracay are very high which means most people only make the transit from Panay to Boracay if they really need to. For this reason most beggars will not be able to travel to Boracay everyday. Also when you walk on the beach in the evening you will see guards almost everywhere. This means someone is watching you in Boracay and you are not depending on other tourists.  All in all I have always felt very safe in Boracay at all times of the day no matter when I went there.

Nice hospitality everywhere in Boracay

In Boracay you will not look for long to see friendly locals as well as employees of the hotels & restaurants. This is not so much a statement that is special for Boracay. In my opinion this is valid in most places of all the Philippine Islands. A smiling face and an open mind to start a conversation with you is something I believe is one of the primary advantages of Philippines to most other South East Asian countries.

If you have visited Boracay already I would appreciate if you could leave a comment. Maybe you can tell my readers if you also believe Boracay is the best beach in the world. In case you are on your way to Philippines or not yet certain if you want to visit Boracay I can only say go-go-go. I am positive you will not regret this decision.

  1. I can relate to the articles. I have been to coron, palawan, puerto galera, and bohol, but at the end of the day, I would still miss boracay. There’s just so many things to do there compared to other beaches, that in 3 or 4 days, you will get bored because u have seen it all.
First time I went to boracay, i stayed 3 nights, & i knew I would come back & stay longer. Next time, we stayed 5 nights, then 6 nights, then 8 nights, & still sad to leave.
There’s just places in boracay that’s fit for all types of travellers. You can choose to stay in a quiet place, or u can stay in a party area.
I would appreciate if anyone has travel tips to Phuket.
